About
Also known as: Che’Nelle Cherilyne Lim, シェネル
Che'Nelle, born Cheryline Ernestine Lim and also known in Japan as シェネル, built her career across two very different worlds. Signed to Virgin Records after a label exec heard her Myspace demos, she broke through in Japan with her 2007 debut Things Happen for a Reason, a record that mixed R&B warmth with dancehall energy courtesy of reggae artist Cham on the lead single "I Fell in Love with the DJ". Her songwriting reach extended beyond her own records too: she co wrote tracks for Leona Lewis, Ricki Lee Coulter, and Carmit Bachar. Her Japan career kept growing from there. She covered Ne Yo, Minnie Ripperton and Whitney Houston on 2011's Luv Songs, performed live alongside two time Olympic figure skating champion Yuzuru Hanyu at Fantasy on Ice in 2015, and signed to Avex Trax in 2023 for the single "I Am". More recently she teamed up with SOTA Hanamura of Da iCE on "I'll be by your side", released in 2025.
