About
Chica Chica are a Dutch trio who sound anything but Dutch. Led by frontwoman and bassist Judith Renkema, the band blends psychedelic cumbia, vintage funk and exotic grooves into something warm, organic and deeply analogue in feel. Think sun baked rhythms and swinging bass lines that bring to mind the kind of records Khruangbin, LA LOM and Hermanos Gutiérrez have made their names with. The group released a self titled debut album in 2023 and followed it up with a second record called Mi Zafira. Renkema's bass playing sits at the heart of the sound, anchoring the groove while the rest of the band builds those lush, swirling textures around it.
