About
Choker, the Detroit born artist whose real name is Christopher Lloyd, has carved out a distinctive lane by blending R&B, soul, rap, acoustic folk, cloud rap, and psychedelic rock into something that defies easy categorisation. His stage name, he has said, draws from the energy and mystique of old metal acts, which gives you a sense of how far outside the box he thinks. His 2018 album Honeybloom pushed that range further, weaving together acoustic folk textures with cloud rap and R&B, while his 2019 "Filling Space" series of EPs kept the ideas flowing across three separate releases. After a seven year gap, Choker returned in early 2026 with Heaven Ain't Sold, proving his knack for coded, layered lyricism and falsetto vocals has not faded. His influences read like an eclectic playlist in themselves, spanning J Dilla, Brian Eno, Aphex Twin, Susumu Yokota, Elzhi, and Danny Brown. That breadth shows up in the music, which always feels personal and strange in the best way.
