About
Christelijk Mannenkoor Assen is a Dutch male choir led by conductor Bert Duijst, and it has built a reputation around a rich choral sound, lively dynamics and a lot of enthusiasm in the singing. Christmas carols are a regular part of what they do, and they like to bring in guest musicians to colour the programme. Those guests have included soprano Margreet Rietveld, who trained in classical singing in Zwolle and performs the big oratorios of Bach, Handel and Brahms. Panpipe player Noortje van Middelkoop, who studied with the Romanian panpiper Nicolae Pirvu and also plays accordion, has joined them too. Jorrit Woudt has long been the choir's regular accompanist at the grand piano, and organist Marcel van de Ketterij, a Zwolle conservatory graduate, has added organ to the sound.
