Chromeo are a Montreal duo built around Dave 1 (David Macklovitch) and P Thugg (Patrick Gemayel), and their whole thing is making electro funk and synth pop that sounds like it was lovingly excavated from a 1980s crate. They describe themselves, only half joking, as "the only successful Arab/Jewish partnership since the dawn of human culture." Their 2004 debut "She's in Control" drew comparisons to Hall & Oates, Zapp and Prince, and the single "Needy Girl" became a genuine worldwide club hit that put them on DJs' playlists everywhere. Fancy Footwork cemented their reputation, and by the time Business Casual landed in 2010, the "Night by Night" video had racked up millions of YouTube views. Their 2018 album Head over Heels earned them their first Grammy nomination, for Best Engineered Album. In 2020 they launched their own label, Juliet Records, and released the lockdown written EP Quarantine Casanova, donating all proceeds to COVID 19 relief. Six studio albums in, they show no sign of putting the talk box down.
