About
Cindy is a trio that calls its own sound "groovepop", and the label fits. Hypnotic, locked in rhythms nod to the golden era of Fela Kuti, while adventurous melodies leave plenty of room to wander, painting the kind of exotic landscapes you can almost see. Soul, funk and disco all get a look in, but nothing settles into one box for long. The real hook is who's playing. Guitarist Valentijn Bannier has played with Cirque Valentin, Zuco 103 and Lefties Soul Connection. Bassist Xander Vrienten has worked with Doe Maar, Jett Rebel and Waylon, and drummer Martijn Bosman with Kane, Gotcha! and Lois Lane. Three seasoned musicians joining forces in a project that's mostly about having a good time together, and you can hear that in the music.
