City and Colour is the solo project of Dallas Green, the Canadian singer and songwriter who built his reputation as a co founder of post hardcore band Alexisonfire before stepping back to focus entirely on his quieter, more personal work. The name is a play on his own name: Dallas is a city, Green is a colour. His debut album Sometimes came out in 2005, described as "dynamically gentle and vulnerable", and it won the Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year. His second record, Bring Me Your Love, leaned further into folk territory with banjo, harmonica, and lap steel, and featured a collaboration with Tragically Hip frontman Gordon Downie. Green has said the best music for him is sad music, something you can escape into, and that thread runs through everything City and Colour puts out.
