A lo fi bedroom pop video filmed on a cheap webcam shouldn't launch a career, but that's exactly what happened when Clairo's "Pretty Girl" went viral on YouTube in 2017. The Atlanta born singer songwriter had been quietly posting music online since she was 13, but that one grainy clip changed everything. She signed to Fader Label and put out the debut EP Diary 001 in 2018, then followed it with her first full album Immunity in 2019, which featured "Sofia", her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Bags", a fan favourite that showed up on best of decade lists from Pitchfork and Paste. Her second album Sling, co produced with Jack Antonoff, landed in the top 20 of the Billboard 200 in 2021 and earned plenty of critical praise. Then came Charm in 2024, self released and genre bending enough to score a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. Across all three records, Clairo has quietly evolved from viral curiosity into one of indie pop's most consistent voices.
