About
Clandestine Blaze is essentially one person: Finnish black metal obsessive Mikko Aspa, who has been running the project out of Lahti since 1998. Drawing on the raw, stripped back energy of Darkthrone, Burzum, Beherit and Bathory, the project has put out a relentless string of albums on Aspa's own Northern Heritage label, from the early rawness of Night of the Unholy Flames through to Consecration of the Blood in 2025. That label also happens to be home to some of the most respected names in underground black metal, including Mgła, Deathspell Omega and Satanic Warmaster. Aspa keeps Clandestine Blaze firmly in underground territory by design. He has been blunt about avoiding the mainstream music industry, preferring tight, closed networks, and live performances have been rare. Beyond this project he stays busy with a sprawling range of other acts, including Grunt, Fleshpress and Stabat Mater, making him one of the more prolific and quietly influential figures operating in the Finnish extreme music underground.
