About
Also known as: The Cockney Rejects
Few bands can claim to have accidentally named an entire genre, but Cockney Rejects did exactly that when their 1980 track "Oi, Oi, Oi" gave the Oi! movement its name. Formed in Custom House, East London, by brothers Mick and Jeff Geggus, they signed to EMI after just four gigs and were quickly selling out UK tours. Their wild behaviour on Top of the Pops got them banned from the show, and their cover of "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles", recorded to mark West Ham United's FA Cup final appearance, became one of punk's most unlikely anthems. The band's concerts were notoriously volatile, partly because their lyrics tackled street fights and football aggression head on, and the Geggus brothers, both former amateur boxers, were no strangers to handling trouble in person. After a major lineup shake up in early 2024, frontman Jeff "Stinky" Turner rebuilt the band with Olga from the Toy Dolls on guitar, JJ Kaos on bass, and Ray Dust on drums. With over a decade of releases on Cadiz Music and a catalogue stretching back to 1979, the Rejects show no signs of going quietly.
