Cocoon have a knack for wrapping unsettling lyrics inside music that sounds almost cheerful, which is part of what made their 2007 debut My Friends all Died in a Plane Crash such a striking introduction. The Clermont Ferrand folk pop duo of Mark Daumail and Morgane Imbeaud went platinum twice over in France, with both that debut and 2010's Where the Oceans End each shifting more than 150,000 copies worldwide. After a hiatus that followed years of heavy touring, Daumail took on the third album alone. Imbeaud was deep in her own projects and felt the new material was his story to tell, so he ran with it. Welcome Home, released in 2016 and featuring Matthew E. White and Natalie Prass, picked up where the duo left off in terms of both critical and commercial reception. The band has kept releasing music since, with the album Wood Fire arriving in 2019 and an EP called Pacific Palace following in 2021.
