About
Cola formed out of the wreckage of Montreal post punk outfit Ought, when Tim Darcy and Ben Stidworthy teamed up with Evan Cartwright, drummer for U.S. Girls, in late 2019. The three spent a couple of years trading lyrics and song ideas across cities before going public, and when Ought officially called it quits in November 2021, Cola stepped into the light the same day with their debut single "Blank Curtain". Rolling Stone's Rob Sheffield singled it out for its "gorgeously obsessive guitar groove", and the band described it as somewhere between a drone chord progression with declarative vocals and an inverted Chicago house track played by a live band. Their debut album Deep in View arrived in 2022, followed by The Gloss in 2024 via Fire Talk Records. Their third record, Cost of Living Adjustment, came out in 2026 on the same label, with the single "Hedgesitting" leading the way.
