About
Also known as: cold rain
Coldrain are a Nagoya based rock band who have been doing something pretty unusual since 2007: five Japanese musicians writing and performing all their music entirely in English. Their sound mixes melodic vocals with the heaviness of metalcore and post hardcore, and the lineup has stayed exactly the same since day one. Vocalist Masato Hayakawa, who speaks both Japanese and English fluently, fronts the band alongside guitarists Y.K.C. and Sugi, bassist RxYxO and drummer Katsuma. They built their fanbase the old fashioned way, handing out demo discs after local shows in Nagoya, before signing with VAP and eventually breaking internationally through Hopeless Records and Sony Music. Songs like Mayday, Envy, The Revelation and Vengeance are among their best known cuts, and their catalogue now stretches to seven studio albums, the latest being Nonnegative from 2022. Their music has turned up in anime series, video game trailers and major festival stages, making them one of the more globally minded acts to come out of the Japanese rock scene.
