About
Few ensembles have done more to bring Baroque and Renaissance repertoire back to life than Concerto Italiano. Founded by harpsichordist Rinaldo Alessandrini, the Italian early music group made its Rome debut in 1984 with Cavalli's La Calisto and has been a major force in historically informed performance ever since. Their recordings of Monteverdi madrigals have picked up the Gramophone Award three times, and they have also taken home the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik, the Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros, and the Premio internazionale del disco Antonio Vivaldi. A big chunk of their recent work has focused on Vivaldi, in partnership with the National University Library in Turin. They have been working through his complete operas and concertos, many of which had not been heard in over 300 years. Standouts include a version of Le Quattro Stagioni that Gramophone ranked among the finest ever recorded, as well as the opera L'Olimpiade and a Vespers reconstruction that won the 2004 Gramophone Award for Baroque Vocal. All of it is released through Naïve.
