Corey Kent rode a wave of streaming momentum to break through in a way Nashville rarely sees coming. His song "Wild as Her" racked up over 300 million streams in its first year, triggered a label bidding war, and eventually hit number one at country radio in 2023, all before most of the industry had even heard his name. RCA Nashville won that bidding war and signed him in August 2022, releasing his major label debut album Blacktop in June 2023. Before all that, Kent was grinding it out in Texas and Oklahoma honky tonks, opening for acts like Cody Johnson and Parker McCollum and putting out independent records, including his second studio album 21. The organic, grassroots path he took makes the "Wild as Her" explosion feel earned. A duet version with Carter Faith added another dimension to the track, and the follow up single "Something's Gonna Kill Me" kept things moving on the Blacktop era.
