Cynthia Erivo is one of very few performers to earn nominations across all four major entertainment awards, the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, and she has won all but the Oscar. The London born singer and actress broke through on Broadway playing Celie in the revival of The Color Purple, a performance so electric that The New York Times said it could change a performer's career. It did. She went on to earn Oscar nominations for portraying Harriet Tubman in Harriet and for playing Elphaba in Wicked, and her rendition of "Defying Gravity" with Ariana Grande from the Wicked soundtrack earned her a second Grammy. On the small screen she took on Aretha Franklin in Genius: Aretha, landing an Emmy nomination in the process. As a singer in her own right, she has put out two solo albums, with recent activity suggesting new music is in the works.
