Daniel Romano is one of those rare artists who genuinely refuses to stay in one lane. The Welland, Ontario native has moved freely between rustic folk, retro country, psychedelic rock, straight ahead rock, and punk, releasing music at a pace that makes most artists look idle. His country leaning records like Sleep Beneath the Willow and If I've Only One Time Askin' earned him Polaris Prize longlists and a Juno nomination, while his Ancient Shapes project channels pure punk energy in a completely different direction. Romano really kicked things into overdrive during 2020, dropping multiple albums in quick succession, including the psychedelic Visions of the Higher Dream, collaborative work with his brother and members of Fucked Up, and Forever Love's Fool, a 22 minute progressive rock track made with Danny Carey of Tool. He also co runs the independent label You've Changed Records and has done visual design work for artists including M. Ward and City and Colour, proving he is as restless a creator off the stage as he is on it.
