About
Also known as: Daniil Trifonov, ダニール・トリフォノフ
The New York Times once wrote that few artists have burst onto the classical music scene with the incandescence of Daniil Trifonov, and it is hard to argue. The Russian pianist swept through the major international competitions in 2010 and 2011, taking prizes at the Chopin Competition in Warsaw, the Arthur Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv, and the gold medal plus grand prix at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. Martha Argerich, who gave him the maximum score in Warsaw, later said he had "everything and more" and that she had never heard anything like his touch. Trifonov signed with Deutsche Grammophon in 2013, releasing a live recording of his Carnegie Hall debut recital that earned a Grammy nomination. He went on to win the Grammy in 2018 for his recording of Liszt's complete transcendental études. Seven of his albums have charted on Billboard's Top Classical Albums list. He performs regularly with the world's top orchestras, from the Berlin Philharmonic to the Cleveland Orchestra, and his solo recitals fill legendary halls including Carnegie Hall and the Concertgebouw.
