Dark New Day brought together a serious collection of talent when it formed in 2004, pulling members from Sevendust, DoubleDrive, Stereomud, Stuck Mojo, Virgos Merlot, and Skrape into one hard rock outfit. Their debut album Twelve Year Silence landed in 2005 and put them on the map quickly, with the single Brother reaching No. 7 on the US Mainstream Rock chart and the album charting on the Billboard 200. The song Taking Me Alive even made it onto the House of Wax soundtrack that same year. The band's story is a constant juggling act between member commitments elsewhere. Clint Lowery toured with Korn, Will Hunt filled in for Tommy Lee in Mötley Crüe, and both Hunt and Troy McLawhorn spent time as touring members of Evanescence, which naturally slowed things down. Despite all that, Dark New Day kept going, releasing the acoustic EP Black Porch in 2006, then New Tradition in 2012 and Hail Mary in early 2013. Their sound sits squarely in post grunge and alternative metal territory, heavy but melodic.
