For nearly two decades, David Ellefson was the beating low end heart of Megadeth, the only member besides Dave Mustaine who stayed with the band from its earliest days in 1983 right through to their 2002 breakup. His bass work appears on every Megadeth album from Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good! through Rude Awakening, and he earned a songwriting credit on tracks including "Family Tree" from Youthanasia. Mustaine dubbed him "Dave Junior", a nickname that eventually just became "Junior". After Megadeth dissolved, Ellefson kept busy with F5, whose debut A Drug for All Seasons dropped in 2005, along with stints in Killing Machine, Temple of Brutality, and the cover band Hail!. He rejoined Megadeth in 2010 and spent another eleven years there before departing in 2021. Since then he co founded the hard rock band the Lucid with Vinnie Dombroski of Sponge and drummer Mike Heller of Fear Factory, and he now holds the bassist seat in Metal Church.
