About

Also known as: D. Gilmour, Dave Gilmour, David Gilmore, David Jon Gilmour, Gilmour, デヴィッド・ギルモア

Few guitarists are as instantly recognisable as David Gilmour. The Cambridge born musician joined Pink Floyd in 1967 to cover for the deteriorating Syd Barrett, and what started as a stop gap turned into one of rock's most celebrated careers. His tone and feel helped steer the band away from its more chaotic early sound, and by the early 1980s Pink Floyd had become one of the biggest selling acts in history. After Roger Waters left in 1985, Gilmour led the band through three more studio albums, including The Division Bell and the ambient closer The Endless River. As a solo artist he has put out five albums, the most recent being Luck and Strange in 2024, which reached number one in the UK. Away from his own records, he played a pivotal role in launching Kate Bush's career, paying for her early demo recordings and helping her land a record deal. His wife Polly Samson has written lyrics for many of his songs, making their collaboration one of the more quietly central partnerships in his work.
