About

Also known as: David Gistelinck, David Links

David Linx is a Belgian vocalist and songwriter from Brussels whose voice has wound through some genuinely adventurous corners of jazz. Born David Gistelinck, he built a career that spans intimate duo work with pianist Diederik Wissels, lush orchestral projects with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, and sessions alongside figures like Toots Thielemans, Paolo Fresu and Maria Joao. His 1990 record "A Lover's Question" featured the poet and activist James Baldwin reading his own texts, which gives you a sense of how far outside the typical vocal jazz playbook Linx is willing to go. Over the decades he has moved between jazz and French chanson with equal ease, and his discography keeps growing in interesting directions. "Brel" from 2016 put his voice against the Brussels Jazz Orchestra for a tribute to Jacques Brel, while "Skin In The Game" from 2020 brought in a tight band including Grégory Privat and Arnaud Dolmen for something with a bit more rhythmic punch. He also teaches jazz vocals at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, so his influence extends well beyond his own recordings.
