DD Company, a Dutch children's music group from Katwijk, got their start in an unexpected place: the holiday island of Mallorca, where they ran a wholesale business in entertainment supplies for hotels. Founder Didi Dubbeldam teamed up with Jan van der Plas, a songwriter and musician previously known for the band Les Zazous, and together they put together a collection of children's songs under the title Minidisco. That compilation sold tens of thousands of copies. Rather than rely on record shops to stock children's music, they took a smart alternative route and brought their songs directly to holiday parks, campsites and play centres, selling the Minidisco CDs on the spot. The strategy paid off massively, and the Minidisco name eventually took over as their main artist identity. Their YouTube channel keeps the fun going with singalong kinderliedjes covering everything from brushing your teeth to life on the farm.
