About
Deadland Ritual brought together some serious rock royalty: Geezer Butler from Black Sabbath on bass, guitarist Steve Stevens best known for his work with Billy Idol, drummer Matt Sorum of Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver, and vocalist Franky Perez. Sorum originally put the group together and even coined the name, which was meant to evoke a ritualistic dead space. Their debut single 'Down in Flames' landed in December 2018 and drew comparisons to brooding blues rock with a contemporary hard rock edge, its sinister low end courtesy of Butler sitting alongside Perez's powerful vocal delivery. The band made their live debut at The Troubadour in West Hollywood in May 2019, then took the stage at Download Festival in the UK and Hellfest in France that same summer. A second single, 'Broken and Bruised', followed in 2019. Unfortunately the project was short lived. By 2021 Butler confirmed that Sorum had departed and that, as far as he was concerned, Deadland Ritual was finished.
