About
Also known as: Derek G. Sherinian, Derek Sherinan, Derrick Sherinian
MusicRadar once dubbed Derek Sherinian the keyboard playing version of Eddie Van Halen, and that comparison makes a lot of sense the moment you hear him play. His signature style is aggressive and guitaristic, a far cry from the gentler approach most keyboardists take, and it has earned him nicknames like "King of the Keys" from Guitar World and "Caligula of Keyboards" from Alice Cooper himself. He spent five years in Dream Theater between 1994 and 1999, contributing to Falling into Infinity and A Change of Seasons, before going on to co found Planet X, Black Country Communion, Sons of Apollo, and Whom Gods Destroy. Across nine solo albums, Sherinian has pulled in an extraordinary roster of guests: Slash, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Joe Bonamassa, Allan Holdsworth, Steve Lukather, and Al Di Meola, to name a few. The records lean into jazz rock, neoclassical metal, and progressive fusion, always with that hard hitting keyboard front and center. He also toured and recorded for Alice Cooper, Billy Idol, and Joe Bonamassa, and in 2021 appeared on Michael Schenker's album Immortal. MusicRadar voted him Greatest Keyboardist of the 21st Century that same year.
