About

Formed in Koblenz back in 1988, Desaster took their name straight from a Destruction song, which tells you pretty much everything about where they are coming from. Raw, uncompromising and proudly old school, they have built their sound around the kind of riff heavy thrash metal that the German scene practically invented, though with enough black metal menace to keep things genuinely nasty. Rock Hard journalist Wolf Rüdiger Mühlmann once called them the most important German black metal band, while his colleague Götz Kühnemund settled on a simpler verdict: Germany's leading black thrashers. Over the years Desaster have shared stages at festivals like Wacken Open Air, toured South America and recorded with guests including Kreator vocalist Mille Petrozza and Primordial frontman A.A. Nemtheanga. Their 2000 album Tyrants of the Netherworld was highlighted in 2025 by Metal Injection as one of the most underrated metal albums of the 2000s, a belated nod to a band that never really needed the approval anyway. Their track Metalized Blood, featuring guest vocalists from Pentacle, Violent Force and Living Death, remains a fan favourite and got a fresh upload in 2025.
