About
Also known as: Diana Burkot, Диана Буркот
A member of Pussy Riot since 2011, Diana Burkot has spent years operating at the intersection of political activism and experimental art. Born in Moscow and now based in Iceland, she took part in the 2012 Punk Prayer protest performance inside the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, managing to avoid arrest while others did not. In September 2025 she was convicted in absentia to eight years in prison by Russian authorities on charges of spreading false information about the Russian military. Her solo project Sweat and Blood steps into territory that blends dark, fairytale tinged atmospheres with breakbeats and digital sound design, pairing that sonic landscape with soft but dramatically expressive vocal performances. The record was developed with Icelandic sound designer Ronja Jóhannsdóttir and Swiss producer Kurt Uenala, known for his work with Depeche Mode, Moby, The Kills and Woodkid. The project channels the raw political urgency of her collective work into something more personal and poetic.
