About
Formed in Chicago in 2014, Drama is the duo of singer Via Rosa and producer Na'el Shehade, and their sound sits at a compelling crossroads of R&B, electronic music, and dance pop. The two were introduced by a mutual friend in 2013 and connected at Shehade's studio, where the chemistry was immediate enough that a full creative partnership soon followed. The name itself came from a chance text message Shehade received from a collaborator in Berlin while he was midway through the duo's first EP. That debut EP, Gallows, arrived in November 2016 and set the tone: brooding, soulful vocals layered over danceable production with a distinctly Chicago feel. Shehade has cited Chicago house music as a foundational influence on the way he builds tracks. Their follow up release, Lies After Love, pushed further into emotional territory, with five tracks exploring the stories people tell themselves to survive heartbreak. The single Majid came paired with a video drawing on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, hinting at the visual ambition the duo brings alongside their music.
