LEISURE came together in a pretty unlikely way: six Auckland musicians spontaneously renting a bach in Muriwai in 2015 and jamming out what would become one of New Zealand's most distinctive electronic acts. Their sound pulls from a genuinely eclectic mix of funk, 90s boom bap, R&B, and early 2000s dance pop, blended into something that feels effortless rather than calculated. Their debut single "Got It Bad" dropped anonymously on SoundCloud and immediately caught fire, partly because nobody knew who was behind it. That song later turned up on the American drama You, which tells you something about its staying power. The six members all came up through Auckland's scene in their own right, whether through pop punk, psych indie, EDM or production work for artists like Benee. Signed to Nettwerk Records, they have put out five studio albums, from their self titled 2016 debut through to Welcome to the Mood, released in September 2025.
