About
Jacobien Rozemond on violin and voice paired with Renée Bekkers on accordion: the combination sounds unlikely on paper, but the music they make together spans centuries and genres with real ease. Their repertoire moves from Baroque pieces by Castello, van Eyck and Merula through the intimate poetry settings of Emily Dickinson, set to music by Benjamin de Murashkin, and on to the serene compositions of Ernest Bloch and Albert van Veenendaal. Tango is a big part of the picture too, with Piazzolla sitting alongside newly commissioned work by Matthias Kadar, who wrote a modern tango specifically for the duo. The thread running through all of it is a focus on simplicity and the fleeting nature of joy, translated into sound through an unusually expressive instrumental pairing.
