About

Early James grew up in Alabama and has a voice that sounds decades older than his years, raw and soulful in a way that draws instant comparisons to artists he admires like Bob Dylan, Hank Williams and Tom Waits. He picked up the guitar at fifteen and started writing his own songs not long after. Playing shows alongside acts like The Marcus King Band and The Black Keys eventually put him in front of Dan Auerbach, the multi Grammy winning member of The Black Keys, who signed him to his label Easy Eye Sound. His debut album, Singing for My Supper, earned wide praise and kicked off an ongoing collaboration with Auerbach as producer. Their third record together, Medium Raw, pushes into blues rock territory with stripped back production and a mood that feels like it belongs to another era entirely.
