About
Also known as: Ebi Hamedi, Ebrahim Hamedi, ابراهیم حامدی, ابی
With a career spanning more than five decades and a catalog of nearly 200 singles and over 30 albums, Ebi is one of the most enduring figures in Persian pop music. Born Ebrahim Hamedi, he got his start in Tehran, eventually forming a beat band called The Rebels alongside Shahram Shabpareh and Siavash Ghomayshi, inspired by The Beatles. He left Iran in 1977, two years before the Islamic Revolution, and built his life and career in Los Angeles, where exile only deepened his reputation as both a romantic and a political voice. Some of his most beloved work carries real weight. The patriotic anthem Khalij e Hamishegi ye Fars is among his most famous songs, and his 1995 album Setarehaye Sorbi produced what fans voted as his two greatest tracks. He has never shied away from political territory either, releasing protest songs tied to the 1979 revolution, the 2009 Iranian presidential election, and beyond. In 2014 he teamed up with Googoosh for the Nostalgia world concert tour, and his most recent album, Lalehzaar, came out in 2019.
