About
Also known as: Eddie & the Hotrods, Eddie and the Hot Rods, Eddie and the Hotrods
Eddie and the Hotrods came out of Essex, England, carrying the raw, hard driving sound of pub rock and proto punk that would help set the stage for the British punk explosion. The band is frequently cited as one of the acts that laid the groundwork for that era, though the members themselves always cared more about fast, uncompromising rock and roll than any scene politics. Songs like Do Anything You Wanna Do, Teenage Depression, Quit This Town, Life on the Line and Gloria gave them a catalogue that still holds up, and their live shows built a reputation for pure, high energy intensity. Founder and vocalist Barrie Masters died in 2019, which marked an undeniably tough chapter for the group. The band chose to carry on, supported by a loyal fanbase, keeping both the music and Masters' legacy alive. Decades on, Eddie and the Hotrods remain an active outfit, mixing the classic material with more recent recordings.
