About
Also known as: Ed Vedder, Eddie Jerome Vedder, Edward Louis Seversen III, Edward Vedder
Best known as the baritone voice behind Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder has built a career that stretches well beyond arena rock. His solo output leans toward the quieter and more intimate: his first solo record was the soundtrack to the 2007 film Into the Wild, followed by Ukulele Songs in 2011 and the more expansive Earthling in 2022. Rolling Stone readers once ranked him seventh on their list of Best Lead Singers of All Time, and in 2017 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of Pearl Jam. Before Pearl Jam even existed, Vedder made his recorded debut as a guest vocalist on Temple of the Dog, the tribute project put together by Soundgarden's Chris Cornell. His duet with Cornell on "Hunger Strike" remains one of the more memorable moments from that scene. The three songs he wrote lyrics for on a demo tape sent to Seattle became Pearl Jam's "Alive", "Once", and "Footsteps", which tells you a lot about how he arrived and how quickly things moved once he did.
