About
Edison Award winner Efraïm Trujillo plays tenor saxophone with a style that blends lyrical warmth, rhythmic drive and real muscle. His group Efraïm Trujillo IV brings together fellow musicians Jeroen Vierdag, Sjoerd van Eijck and Dirk de Nijs, and their album Heroes is built around seven original compositions, each one a portrait of a legendary tenor saxophonist. The record moves through the brooding intensity of Gato Barbieri and on to the classic voices of Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane and Stan Getz, showing just how wide the instrument's range can be. Beyond his own group, Trujillo has been a fixture in some of the Netherlands' most respected jazz and soul outfits, including The Ploctones, Preacher Men and the New Cool Collective Bigband.
