Shai Maestro is an Israeli jazz pianist whose playing sits somewhere between lyrical introspection and rhythmic invention. He first made his name as part of bassist Avishai Cohen's trio, contributing to four albums including the Blue Note releases Aurora and Seven Seas, sharing that stage with drummer Mark Guiliana. Since stepping out on his own in 2010, Maestro has led a trio that tours relentlessly, averaging around 80 concerts a year and appearing at festivals alongside acts like Chick Corea, Tigran Hamasyan, and Diana Krall. His ECM albums The Dream Thief and Human brought him wider attention, the latter earning warm praise from All About Jazz for the easy rapport between the musicians. In 2025 he took a different turn entirely with Solo Miniatures and Tales on Naïve, his first album recorded entirely solo.
