About
Ekaterina Litvintseva is a pianist from Magadan, Russia, who has built her name on turning big classical stage music into piano pieces of her own. Her earlier programmes drew on famous ballet compositions, and she has since moved on to opera, reworking well known scenes into transcriptions that mix surprise with accessibility. The repertoire she tackles includes the Barcarolle from Offenbach's Les contes d'Hoffmann, a paraphrase on Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, and the Bohemian chanson from Bizet's Carmen, where the flamenco fire comes through on the keys. She picked up her own style through training and masterclasses across Europe. In her opera programme, an actor links the scenes together like a fairy tale, so you get the story as well as the music.
