About
Electric Guest built their sound around a sweet spot where Motown soul meets modern pop, with Asa Taccone's falsetto doing a lot of the heavy lifting. The duo of Taccone and drummer Matthew "Cornbread" Compton got their start after Danger Mouse heard their demos and pushed them to make a record. He ended up co producing their 2012 debut Mondo, which Rolling Stone described as a "Beck ian journey into L.A. slacker soul, full of hooky neon jams." It was a strong entry, landing them on MTV's Artists to Watch list and earning sold out tours across the US, UK, and France. They've kept adding to the catalog since then, releasing Plural in 2017 and Kin in 2019. Festival slots at Bonnaroo, SXSW, Outside Lands, and Splendour in the Grass have kept them busy on the live circuit, and their music has turned up in TV shows like Girls and Teen Wolf. The Guardian pegged them as specialists in "soulful, funked up pop so insidiously catchy" it feels like an homage to the greats of the form.
