About
Also known as: Etran De L’air
Etran de L'Aïr, whose name translates to "stars of the Aïr," are a band of brothers and cousins from the Abalane neighbourhood in Agadez, Niger, and they play a style that sits squarely in the Tuareg desert blues tradition that Tinariwen helped put on the map decades ago. Three guitarists share the stage, swapping between bass and treble guitar fluidly mid set, building that signature amplified, guitar heavy sound that fuses traditional Tuareg music with Western blues and rock. All lyrics are sung in Tamasheq. Signed to Sahel Sounds, they have put out three albums: No. 1 in 2018, Agadez in 2022, and 100% Sahara Guitar in 2024. Their debut caught serious attention when The New Yorker's Amanda Petrusich named it her album of the year. The single Imouha from their third record went viral on YouTube, pulling in over a million views quickly and introducing the band to a whole new audience.
