About
Also known as: Fantasia Barrino, Fantasia Monique Barrino
Fantasia Barrino made history before most people knew her name. Winning American Idol Season 3 in 2004 with a stunning performance of "Summertime", she became the first artist ever to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with a debut single, a feat that put her ahead of artists with decades of industry experience. That single, "I Believe", went on to be the best selling single in the US that year, and her debut album Free Yourself sold over two million copies worldwide. Her r&b career has racked up over a dozen top ten hits on the Adult R&B Airplay chart, and she won a Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for "Bittersweet". She has also proven herself as a serious stage and screen actress, earning a Theatre World Award for her role as Celie in the Broadway run of The Color Purple, a role she reprised in the 2023 film adaptation to widespread award recognition including a Golden Globe nomination and an NAACP Image Award win.
