Felix da Housecat built his name on the Chicago house scene and helped define a sound that stretched far beyond it. Born Felix Stallings Jr., he got his start in 1987 through acid house pioneer DJ Pierre and spent the 1990s releasing a steady stream of records under a rotating cast of aliases including Aphrohead and Thee Maddkatt Courtship. The real turning point came in 2001 with Kittenz and Thee Glitz, a sharp pivot into electroclash territory made alongside collaborators like Miss Kittin. The album won Best Album at the Muzik Awards and pulled in remix requests from Madonna, Britney Spears and Kylie Minogue. His tracks found their way into video games like Midnight Club 2, SSX 3 and Need for Speed: Underground 2, and onto the soundtrack of The Sopranos. The 2004 follow up Devin Dazzle and the Neon Fever kept the momentum going, and he later shifted gears toward disco and soul with Virgo Blaktro and the Movie Disco in 2007, produced by Dallas Austin. He has kept releasing music well into the 2010s, with He Was King and Son of Analogue among his later records.
