Named after a biblical race of angel human hybrids, Fields of the Nephilim carved out a unique corner of gothic rock from their base in Stevenage, and their dusty, Sergio Leone influenced image became just as iconic as the music itself. Their 1987 debut Dawnrazor topped the UK Indie chart, and they kept building momentum with The Nephilim, whose single "Moonchild" reached number 28 on the UK Singles Chart. The sprawling ten minute "Psychonaut" hinted at darker, more experimental territory, and that ambition paid off on Elizium in 1990, produced by Pink Floyd engineer Andy Jackson. Frontman Carl McCoy has been the constant force behind the band through splits, hiatuses, and reunions, and the group eventually returned with Mourning Sun in 2005, their first proper studio album in fifteen years. The live album and DVD Ceromonies, recorded at London's sold out O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire, captured the band running through their full career in style. Recent YouTube activity suggests the band have been revisiting tracks including "Blue Water", "Psychonaut", and "Chord of Souls".
