Five Star were a five sibling pop act from Romford whose run in the mid to late 1980s was genuinely remarkable. At their peak, between 1985 and 1988, they stacked up four top 20 albums and 15 top 40 singles in the UK, with a string of top 10 hits including "System Addict", "Rain or Shine" and "The Slightest Touch". Their second album, Silk and Steel, went quadruple platinum in the UK and sold 1.2 million copies, and the group took home the 1987 Brit Award for Best British Group. The Pearson siblings, guided by their father and manager Buster Pearson, were built in the mould of the Jackson 5 and had the lifestyle to match, at one point owning a security gated mansion in Berkshire full of Lamborghinis and Ferraris. The press loved the spectacle. Chart fortunes faded after 1988 as their sound shifted toward a harder dance direction, and bankruptcy followed not long after. They kept going through the 1990s and into the 2000s, releasing material in the US and eventually reuniting for UK tours, but nothing quite matched the glorious chaos of their Silk and Steel era.
