What started as a joke band with a deliberately silly name, a pun on Freddie Mercury, quickly turned into one of Flanders' most beloved metal acts. Fleddy Melculy was the brainchild of Jeroen Camerlynck, and their debut single T shirt van Metallica, a tongue in cheek dig at people wearing band shirts without knowing the music, became a cult hit almost overnight. That momentum landed them a deal with Sony Music and a slot at Pukkelpop in the same year. Since then they have built a serious discography, with five studio albums and chart positions to match. Their 2018 release De kerk van Melculy hit number one on the Flemish Ultratop 200, and their Graspop show that year was captured as a live album. They have also opened for Guns N' Roses and organised their own festival, FleddyPalooza, at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels. The joke band turned out to be anything but.
