Fleet Foxes built their reputation on something genuinely rare: vocal harmonies so dense and warm they feel almost architectural, wrapped around folk and rock arrangements that manage to sound both timeless and distinctly their own. The Seattle band broke through in 2008 with their Sun Giant EP and self titled debut on Sub Pop, records that landed on best of decade lists and got them into the pages of 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. Robin Pecknold is the engine at the centre, writing and singing, with a cast of multi instrumentalists around him who handle everything from upright bass to woodwinds to violin. Helplessness Blues in 2011 pushed them even further, hitting number 4 on the Billboard 200 and earning a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album. After a gap, Crack Up arrived in 2017 on Nonesuch Records, followed by Shore in 2020, which was essentially a Pecknold solo effort released through Anti. Shore picked up a Grammy nod for Best Alternative Music Album in 2022. Two Grammy nominations, two very different albums, and a band that keeps refusing to repeat itself.
