Fog Lake is the project of Aaron Powell, a bedroom pop artist from Glovertown, Newfoundland, whose recordings have been described as "a complex collage of nebulous angst and heartfelt nostalgia." Working in a lo fi, DIY format on shoestring budgets, he built a devoted following through a steady stream of cassette releases on Orchid Tapes, including Victoria Park and the beloved Dragonchaser. His fifth album Captain came out through Dog Knights Records in 2018, and he kept the momentum going with Tragedy Reel in 2021 and a surprise Bandcamp drop, Midnight Society, in 2023. Powell also runs an ambient instrumental side project called Farewell, Alaska, which got a wider release with Piano Songs in 2022. His track "Push" took on a life of its own when Polish producer Kubi Producent sampled it for "Woda Księżycowa," a song that became the most streamed track on Spotify in Poland in 2024 and earned diamond certification, introducing Fog Lake to a whole new audience.
