About
Frank Rosaly brings a compositional sensibility to drumming that cuts across jazz, improvisation, rock, and experimental music, treating the kit as something closer to a full sonic palette than a rhythm section. Based in Chicago from 2001, he became a central figure in that city's improvised music scene and picked up the Best Jazz Musician award from the Chicago Reader in 2013. He also runs Molk Records, an independent label he has operated since 2004, and has composed for film and theater alongside his performing work. In 2016 Rosaly moved to Amsterdam, where he co leads the project MESTIZX with Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti and fronts the electronic improvised band Ruidoscuro, as well as a solo transcendental drumming project called Bimini. He keeps active ties with artists across Chicago, New York, and Europe, making him a genuinely transatlantic presence in the experimental and jazz worlds.
