About

Frankie & The Heartstrings are a Sunderland indie rock band who earned the tag 'the indie Mötley Crüe' for their hard partying reputation, though their sound draws comparisons to Orange Juice and Dexy's Midnight Runners. Their 2011 debut album Hunger, produced by Edwyn Collins, cracked the UK top 40, and they backed it up with tours supporting Florence & The Machine, Kaiser Chiefs and The Vaccines. A single produced by Suede's Bernard Butler followed, with the B side handled by Ryan Jarman of The Cribs. Their second album The Days Run Away in 2013 came with a side project that took on a life of its own: Pop Recs Ltd, a record shop the band opened in Sunderland that was meant to last two weeks but became a permanent fixture. Third album Decency arrived in 2015, recorded at Leeds' Suburban Homes studio with MJ of Hookworms producing. The band lost founder drummer Dave Harper in 2021, and Pop Recs Ltd continues as part of his legacy.
