Few K pop groups carry the weight of writing and producing their own material the way (G)I DLE do. Formed by Cube Entertainment in 2018 and now going by I dle, the five member Seoul group, Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua, built a reputation as a self producing act, with leader Soyeon at the heart of most of their releases. Things really shifted in 2022 when 'Tomboy' hit number one on the Circle Digital Chart, followed quickly by 'Nxde', making them the only act to score two perfect all kills that year and the first from an independent label to land on the US Billboard Pop Airplay chart with a non English song. Their momentum kept building: 'Queencard' from the 2023 EP I Feel gave them a third straight number one single at home, and the album moved two million copies worldwide. Their 2024 releases, the album 2 and the EP I Sway, each cracked one million sales in South Korea, with 'Fate' topping the charts despite never being pushed as a domestic single. After renewing their contract and officially rebranding to I dle in 2025, they released the million selling EP We Are, showing no signs of slowing down.
