About
Also known as: Garielle, Louise Gabriella Bobb, ガブリエル
Few debut singles hit quite like "Dreams" did in 1993: Gabrielle's first release went straight to number one on the UK Singles Chart and briefly sampled Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" before a copyright issue forced the change. That track announced a voice built for soul and pop soul, warm and direct, and she kept the momentum going with hits like "Give Me a Little More Time", "Walk On By", and the East 17 duet "If You Ever", which sold over half a million copies in the UK alone. After a quieter stretch, she came back hard with "Rise" in 2000, her second UK number one, and the album of the same name sat at the top of the UK Albums Chart for three weeks. "Out of Reach", featured on the Bridget Jones's Diary soundtrack, added another major hit to her catalogue, peaking at number four. The compilation Dreams Can Come True, Greatest Hits Vol. 1 followed in 2001, rounding up a run that few British soul pop artists of her era could match.
